European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) organized the Conference “Getting out of the Crisis Together” focusing on the impact of the economic crisis on poverty and social exclusion. At the Conference, 200 civil society activists, union representatives, politicians, researchers and people experiencing poverty, exchanged ideas and opinions about the consequences of the crisis and possible alternative approaches to overcome the crisis. They called for an urgent need to stop austerity measures as a key measure to overcome the crisis and for a more flexible approach to the debt crisis, based on solidarity and backed by a new type of Marshall Plan that would include social investment in jobs, services and social protection and greater transparency and participative governance and society.
At the Conferences there was unanimous support for the request for solidarity with the Greek people. All groups of similar orientation were also invited to join the development of a common agenda for a dynamic alliance that would advocate changes in the EU.
The Publication „Re-engaging: Hope and Expectations – getting out of the crisis together“ served as the basis for debate.
