Research on the employers needs and profiles of high school graduates in order to increase the employability of Roma

Within the project “Improving the conditions for education and integration of Roma in Serbia” implemented by the REF Branch Office in Serbia (REF), SeConS conducted research on the employability of high school students who were REF’s scholarship holders. The goal of the project, which was supported by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, is to connect the completion of high school with training for acquiring skills for Roma entering the labor market in Serbia.

SeConS’s research was aimed at mapping the competencies of REF’s scholarship holders, identifying their motivation for further education, specialization and finding a job, and pointing to the experiences and perceptions of discrimination of these students. The survey was conducted in 49 municipalities in Serbia.

Based on the research findings, an online database of all students who were REF’s scholarship holders was created. This database will enable the REF Branch Office in Serbia to track the training programmes and employment of these students. Moreover, it will enable them to gain an insight into every individual student’s motivation, competencies, and work experience. Furthermore, the database contains personalized CVs for all students.
